Survivor’s protection

Your ITP occupational pension includes insurance coverage for your closest family members, which is either automatically included in your ITP plan or can be added on. There are different types of coverage in this context and they are referred to as survivor´s protection. Certain survivor´s protection policies only apply for as long as you are working for your employer, but others may be valid for a longer period.

How the different types of survivor’s protection apply

Survivors pensions that are included with other policies: Occupational group life insurance, TGL, which is paid as a lump-sum to your closest family member(s) when you die. ITP 2 Family pension is a survivor´s pension which is included if you have an ITP 2 Occupational pension and if your monthly salary is SEK 46,844 or higher, but you can choose to remove this survivor’s pension. The pension is paid to your family monthly after you die.

Three tips about survivor´s protection

  1. Make sure you have an overview of the protection you have
On My pages you can see what coverage you have with us. Your latest annual statement from Collectum gives you an overview of all of your compensation and the amounts in your occupational pension.
  2. Select or remove coverage depending on your personal situation
If you have a family who is dependent on your income, you may wish to increase your coverage and add repayment cover and ITP Family cover. There are also cases where you may wish to remove unnecessary coverage, for example once your children have reached adulthood or you are nearing retirement age. This, then, increases your own pension benefits.
  3. Decide who will receive the compensation
Write a beneficiary clause and decide who will receive the compensation when you die. If you have not written a beneficiary clause, the compensation is paid out to survivors according to the standard order of beneficiaries.

How to change the designated beneficiaries

You may write a special beneficiary clause if you wish and decide yourself who will benefit from your Occupational group life insurance, TGL, repayment cover and ITP Family cover.
